Silhouette Studio® software
My husband bought me the Silhouette Cameo for Christmas and so far I have been very impressed with it. I previously had a Robo Lite which struggled to cut thicker cardstock but I have been able to cut both Coredinations card and Centura Pearl card with my Cameo without any problem. When choosing the Cameo, the deciding factor for me was that it had a print and cut function, which means that I can trace decoupage layers in the Silhouette Studio software (supplied on a disc with the machine), print them on my usual printer and then cut them out using my Cameo. I have tried this once so far with very acceptable results. The Cameo comes with a 12 x 12 inch cutting mat which is much tackier than the A4 mat supplied with the Lite, which was a major source of frustration for me! But you can use any size of cardstock in the machine – A4, letter etc and there is also a “custom” setting so you can use up your smaller scraps of card. Simply tell the machine the size of card you want to cut and it will adjust the settings accordingly. I’ve tried it and it works perfectly. The blade on the Cameo is a ratchet blade, which is very simple to adjust and doesn’t require the use of coloured caps as previous versions did. It is also possible to change the blade for a pen and draw with the Cameo – and by using an adaptor (not supplied but the same one as previous versions used) you can use normal “gel”pens etc too. The Cameo also retains the sd card function, which means that files can be saved to sd card and used in the Cameo so it becomes a stand-alone machine – no need to have it linked to your computer if you don’t want to. Another plus for me as space is limited. I haven’t explored all the functions of my new toy yet, but what I have investigated have really impressed me. Overall I am very pleased with my Cameo and would recommend it to anyone considering buying a cutting machine.
