This week the immensely talented Jane Carroll has shared a recent interview about herself with us, and a few of her favourite cards! Read on for more details about Jane:
How did you first get in to cardmaking?
'I went shopping for “Special” Christmas cards in 2006 and couldn’t believe the cost so I decided to buy a card kit from Dawn Bibby along with glue and gems and it’s grown from there. I was so proud of those cards but looking back now they were shocking!'
Have you always been a creative person? What other crafts do you enjoy doing?
'I have always been crafty with my Nan and Mum teaching me to knit and crochet as a little girl and when taking GCSE Textiles at school I got the bug for embroidery and cross stitch. I still do these crafts but I love the “quick fix” of making a card.'
Is there any particular project or occasion with your crafting that you’ve been particularly proud of?
'To be honest I’m very critical of my work and always worry when I send my samples to CC that they will not be good enough but I do have a soft spot for the Humphrey card as from seeing this card came the very exciting e-mail from Leann asking if I would like to join the Design Team'
You’re a member of the Crafter’s Companion Design Team – how long have you been a member for?
'I am very proud to say I joined the team in June 2011 and have loved every second. Not only because of the wonderful crafting goodies that I have the privilege of working with but also the fantastic team behind the scene from CC themselves and also a wonderful group of design team ladies too.'
Do you do anything else for Crafter’s Companion, other than the Design Team commitments?
'I am also on the Design Team for the Monthly Challenge and recently I have been asked to join the Demonstrator Team which I am really excited about as this is a new avenue for me so although scary I can’t wait.'
You’ve also become a keen beader? Did this come about through Beader’s Companion or have you been a beader for some time now?
'I only started beading in May 2012. I had seen Sarah quite a lot on C&C and though I would never be able to do that but my crafty friend Wendy made me a necklace for my birthday which I loved and she said how easy it was and so I bought a kit from BC and it has grown into another obsession and I love creating my own patterns and styles. I have now been lucky enough to be asked to join the BC Team too so you will be seeing some of my creations on the website soon.'
What advice would you give someone just starting out in crafting?
'Whether its paper craft or beading my advice would be to invest in the best tools you can. I would be lost without my Clevercut Maxi & Ebosser for paper craft and for beading the tool set and beading mat are invaluable.'
We are so thrilled that Jane is part of the family here at Crafter's Companion, and always look forward to the work she shares!
