We have a lovely Member of the Month to introduce you to this month! Please say hello to Liz Sharkey! She shared the loveliest comment with us when we asked her to be our featured Member: "I would like to add if possible I would be lost without all the help and advice I receive from your colleagues, as well as, the website. Nearly all of the stuff in my room is from Crafters Companion."
Read more about her, in her own words, below!
I have always been busy with my hands as my Gran taught me to knit and crochet from the age of 5 and my mother taught me embroidery and dressmaking. I have taught crafts to adults, including Bobbin lace making, over a number of years. When my son moved out, his bedroom was quickly turned into a craft room, something I have always longed for. It now houses all my crafting equipment, with some of it now spilling out onto the floor, especially as a couple of years ago I began to make cards. I found great pleasure in being able to send cards to relations, as well as handmade presents. However, as I was enjoying making the cards I found I made more than I needed. Then in September, 2012, my Mum died from Alzheimer's. I contacted the Alzheimer's Society and asked if I could sell homemade cards to help raise funds for them. Since then I have joined a very small group of volunteers in Coventry to raise much needed funds and I now sell cards and other craft items, like knitted scarves and necklaces at various fund raising events. Since I retired earlier this year, I am hoping I shall have more time for making cards and raising more funds.
