We're pleased to introduce our Member of the Month for September 2014... Carol Wilsher!
Hi, I am Carol Wilsher, I live on Glynneath Road in Resolven. I began serious crafting in 2001 (I had previously made cross-stitch cards for family birthdays). Following the sudden and tragic death of my lovely sister, Tina, whom if she had lived would have been devastatingly handicapped, mentally and physically. I needed to do something positive. Close to my house, a local handicapped society ran a purpose-built canal barge offering trips to handicapped schools and homes for the elderly; it had a teashop on the canal towpath so I made cards for them to sell in the teashop. When I retired, I had more time for my
card-making and now I donate regularly to several charities ( the teashop is now closed):
• The George Coller Memorial Fund - a child's asthma charity
• Gower Bird Hospital
• Redwings Horse Sanctuary
• S&W Wales Wildlife Trust
• and lately, as a result of a raffle at my local pub, a stroke unit in a local hospital.
In 2014 up till the end of June, I've raised £315 for charity and I view my small contributions as Tina's Legacy. I do derive immense satisfaction from making cards but even more so from seeing other people's pleasure when I show them a pack of cards they've requested: for instance, my seventy nine year old neighbour, Mair, has had a stroke and only gets to shop for essentials so relies on me to provide her cards to send to a very large family. I can see the fun she gets from choosing cards and then she tells me how pleased her family are to receive "such beautiful, hand-made cards, totally unique".
I would like to say a HUGE thank-you to Crafter's Companion for providing quality tools at affordable prices. I donate every penny I receive for my cards to a chosen charity (discussed with my customer) so, as I am funding everything from my own pocket, price is really important as is quality.
Yours Sincerely, Carol Wilsher
