We're pleased to introduce our member of the Month, Brenda Wilson. Read a bit about her in her own words:
"Crafting has been a huge part of my life since I was a child when I would craft alongside my mum. Unfortunately my mum had a stroke and was paralysed down one side, but she loved to craft alongside me until the end. Crafting, especially card making, helped me through my grief. When my 24 year old nephew, Lee passed away at Christmas time in 2010 from SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death from Epilepsy), I began selling the cards I made to support Epilepsy Research UK.
My sister, brother-in-law and niece started their own charity in Lee’s name - Lee’s Smile. I decided to make and sell my cards to help this charity which is in the process of setting up the Lee Johnson Suite at Leeds General Infirmary for research and monitoring of Epilepsy patients. Fundraising for this charity has included many things from a ‘Smile With The Stars’ Gala Ball (which raised over £80,000) to coffee mornings and half marathons. As I have no intention of purchasing a pair of running shoes I use my love of crafting to show my support.
My daughter prompted me to sign up for a few fairs and the rest, as they say, is history. I've made hundreds of cards and they are very well received, and the joy of seeing a happy customer combined with the opportunity to raise money for a charity so close to my heart is wonderful."
