We're pleased to introduce our August Member of the Month, Beverly Patel!
I started cardmaking about 6 or 7 years ago. My sister, Carol, had already been cardmaking for a while and, as I saw more of her cards, I began to think I could do this too. We have developed quite different styles but often phone each other up to brainstorm ideas, exchange advice and support each other.
The church I attend has a small congregation but is very active in the community. It’s also a Georgian Grade 1 listed building and every penny of fundraising really helps. A few years ago, I thought giving something up for Lent (ie chocolate or alcohol) seemed too negative and decided to just give something instead so I began having a stock of my cards for sale in church to raise funds and have continued to do so. Since then a local shop has also taken a supply of my cards with the proceeds also going to church funds, and I regularly have a stall at a variety of fundraising events throughout the year.
I’ve loved developing my hobby over the years – when I look back at some of my early efforts now I can’t believe I expected people to pay for them! I’ve recently discovered the Spectrum Noir pencils and am looking forward to using them more with digistamps in the future.
