We're so pleased to introduce our Member of the Month for June 2016, Joan Heslop!
"I was so honoured and proud to be made Member of the Month. I have always enjoyed “crafting” and did knitting and sewing from a young age following in my mother’s footsteps. My 3 children (all grown up now”) were always clothed by various versions of my pastime activities.
I have worked for DMC doing samplers etc for them for a number of years and have just finished this year. I think from this I started to make many cross stitch cards and then turned my hand to all the new ideas of decoupage, embossing, die cutting, pin and stitch cards and numerous others. I make all my own birthday and Christmas cards to send to friends and family throughout the year. My hobby is doing anything “crafty” but most of all I enjoy doing a selection of cards that I can sell to my friends to raise money for charity.
I belong to the Billingham Trefoil Guild, which is part of Girlguiding UK. I joined Brownies 70 years ago and always try to “lend a hand”. Every year our TG chose a charity to raise funds for and this year we had a gentleman for the RNLI from Redcar to come and talk to us about the organisation.
Last year we raised money for “Schools for India” and this year we decided to go nearer home. We always have a fundraising Coffee Morning at Easter time and my friend and I always have a stall of our home made cards to sell. I make cards for special occasions when asked but I always have a box of assorted handmade cards just in case I am asked “have you got a get well card” or something similar, this box goes with me to all my meeting just in case anyone needs one."
