It`s that time of the year again when the nights start drawing in and we begin thinking about Halloween. I love making Halloween stuff as it reminds me of my misspent childhood staying up late and watching Hammer Horror. I also love googly eyes and this is the perfect time to put them to good use. I mean, the spider on this tag is mahoosive but not at all scary with its googly eyes.
What you will need:
Crafters Companion, Die`sire, Dahlia dies
Craters Companion, Die`sire, Circles dies
Crafters Companion, Die`sire, Create a Card , Beautiful Borders (free with CI 15)
Spppktacular paper printed from CD ROM free with CI 15
Tim Holtz distress inks - black soot, seedless preserves, spiced marmalade, ripe persimmon, antique linen, peeled paint
small hole punch
large black button (around 1 1/2" preferably wooleln)
two googelly eyes
black shoe lace
good quality mat print paper
Coredinations, brigihts, purple linen card
purple and orange ribbons
Collall 3D glue
Collall tacky glue
hot glue gun
double sided tape
Roughly cut a piece of white card to the size of the tag (7" x 4"). On a craft mat or any shiny surface stamp out peeled paint, seedless preserves and ripe persimmon. Spritz with water and then roll the card over the inks. Allow to dry and then repeat the process until you have the desired effect.
Print the papers from the CD ROM and make a sentiment using your graphics program (I made white words 3 1/4" long with a black background), cut the sentiment banner to size. Cut the required area of the card to 3 1/4" x 6" and then shape the top of the card to a point. Rub over any areas of white on the card and the sentiment with antique linen distress ink. Distress the edges of the card and sentiment using a nail file and rub the edge of the sentiment with spiced marmalade distress ink. Mat and layer the coloured card onto black card. Punch a small hole at the top of the tag to tie the ribbons through later.
Cut the purple linen card using the Dahlia and circle dies and shade the edges with black soot distress ink. Cut the printed paper into two strips of 2 1/2" x 8" and using the beautiful border die cut along the top edge of both strips. Rub over the cut edge of the border with black soot distress ink. Mat and layer the tag onto black card. Punch a hole at the top of the tag.
Join the strips at one edge making sure that the cut pattern joins up. Run the strip through the ribble. Fold the strip in a concertina fashion and then glue the remaining ends together again making sure that the cut pattern joins up. Arrange the folded paper into a rosette circle and stick the purple circle over the middle. Glue the rosette to the purple petal die cut, glue the rosette onto the tag.
Make the spider by glueing the googly eyes onto the button. Cut 8 x 2 1/4" pieces from the shoelace and stick them to the back of the button to form legs. Glue the spider onto the rosette. Glue the rosette onto the tag and then glue the feet of the spider onto the tag.
Shape the sentiment so that it is raised in the middle and flat at the edges and using a 3D glue stick it onto the tag. Allow to dry.
Thread the ribbons through the punched hole and tie the tag to a cellophane bag of sweeties.
TOP TIP: I used a hot glue gun to make the spider and to secure the rosette to the die cuts, it's so much easier as the glue dries quickly and it provides a very strong bond.
