It’s National Stationery Week!

We’re so excited for National Stationery Week here at Crafter’s Companion! We were absolutely thrilled to be asked to host one day of the campaign, as there’s such a connection between craft and pretty stationery – they’re all about sending your love and making someone’s day a little brighter, whether that’s with a handmade card or a heartfelt note.

Our focus for the day is constructing your own handmade stationery storage and items for around your craft room, and we’ll be sharing a series of beautiful projects throughout the day for you to try your hand at.

Want to take part?

The pretty papers and all the templates for creating these projects are available to download absolutely free from here, and we're also giving you the chance to save up to 30% on this fantastic essentials bundle so you can take part in National Stationery Week with your own hand-crafted project. We’d love to see your makes, so make sure you share them with us using the hashtags #getcrafty and #natstatweek! And don’t forget to enter our fabulous competition to bag yourself a bumper selection of Spectrum Noir products worth over £100!

First up, how about this must-do handmade sign for your office or craft room? It’s totally gorgeous and uses a handwritten and hand-cut element covered in our new Metallic Markers to add a hint of bling. Stunning!

You will need

Brilliant Basics digital download
Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens
Spectrum Noir Metallic Markers Precious Metals set
white cardstock
Collall All Purpose Glue
white 8x8” frame

scalpel & cutting mat

How to make

1 Cut an 8x8” square from the white cardstock. Using a Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen, freely colour from the top-left corner to the bottom-right corner - set aside and leave to dry.

2 Hand-draw the ‘crafty’ word outline onto white cardstock and carefully cut out with a scalpel. Colour then cut out the word using a gold Metallic Marker & clear Sparkle pen.

3 Print out two patterned papers and two co-ordinating plain papers from the Brilliant Basics collection.

From the patterned papers, cut two feather shapes for the fletching, carefully snip the edges of the ‘feathers’ from top to bottom to add texture. Colour over with clear Sparkle pen.

4 Cut out two long strips of plain cardstock for the arrow shaft and colour them with the gold Metallic Markers and glue them onto the front of the feathers.

5 Cut out two heart-shaped arrowheads from the plain Brilliant Basics papers. Colour over with clear Sparkle pen and glue onto the end of the arrow shaft.

6 Take the clear Sparkle pen and colour a small square of card - leave to dry for a few seconds, then rub it all over the 8x8” square from Step 1, to add that extra touch of sparkle.

7 Glue the 2 arrows onto the 8x8” square, crossing over each other to form an ‘X’ shape. Take the word outline, glue and place it over the arrows in your preferred position.

8 Leave to dry for a few minutes and then insert inside your frame.

Our Metallic Markers also look fantastic when used to decorate your own handmade storage for notebooks, journals and magazines, like this gorgeous project by our in-house editor, Natalie Helyer.

Peacock & template digital downloads
Printable Light Card
Spectrum Noir Metallic Markers Precious Metals set
sequin trim
3D foam pads
Collall Tacky Glue

computer & printer
bone folder
hot-glue gun
craft knife

How to make

1 Download the template provided, print and piece it together. Use the template to cut out the magazine holder from cardboard, score where indicated and secure the tabs using hot glue.

2 Print two contrasting coloured papers and three pieces of patterned paper from the Peacock collection onto Printable Light Card. Use the sheets to cover the magazine holder as shown, securing with Tacky Glue.

3 Print the flower PDF onto Printable Light Card, fussy-cut each topper, shape the petals using a bone folder and layer them together using 3D foam pads. Use a hot-glue gun to add a sequin trim to the centre of the flower and add metallic accents with a silver pen.

4 Repeat Step 3 to create a second flower embellishment and secure one to the front of the holder and the second at the back. Use a hot-glue gun to adhere sequin trim around the edge of the holder.

5 Affix a piece of navy paper onto cardboard, then use a silver marker to write the word ‘magazines’ onto it. Trim, add border details and mount the sign onto the back of the holder. Dot the ‘i’ with a sequin to finish.
