Busy day at the warehouse!

Well, while all you people were no doubt having fun watching our Leann on TV launching the s.w.a.l.k. stamps this morning, you’ll be pleased to hear that I had a busy day with some of the rest of our staff over at our warehouse!

Some of you may have heard already, but for the rest of you, we’ve got a really exciting launch planned for later this month – it’s not a new product, or a new license, or even a new range – it’s a whole new business! That’s right, we’ve decided to expand into Jewellery Making, and we are officially launching ‘Beader’s Companion’ on 23rd Feb, so watch this space!

Some of you may have seen Sarah on TV on Wednesday this week – she is the newest addition to the ‘Crafter’s Family’ and she has joined us to head up our beading division. All those lucky people who came to our Craftaganza in November last year, had the opportunity to meet her, (and learn some exciting jewellery making techniques to boot!) and for everyone else, don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of chance to get to know her in the coming weeks and months!

Anyway, as you would expect, launching a new company takes a lot of time and effort, and we’ve been busy beavering away behind the scenes for the past 6 months, and today has been no exception! We took a delivery last week from our partner in the good old USofA – Darice, who are one of the leading bead manufacturers in the US, so it was all hands to the pump today getting the warehouse organised and making sure there was a place for everything, and everything was in it’s place, so I thought I’d get ‘snap-happy’ with my camera and let you in behind the scenes…

It was an early start for the crew… And Ross was making sure he was ‘suited and booted’ ready for a hard days work!

Simon was straight onto the forklift (it’s his favourite pastime these days)

And poor Ross (who doesn’t have a forklift license) had to make do with the manual machine!

This is how our ‘retail picking’ room looked before we started this morning… (be sure to check further down for the ‘before and after’ comparison!

And the picking shelves were completely empty…

Of course we had to keep the troops on top form, so a short break for our elevenses, a bacon butty and a cuppa

Then the ‘boss’ turned up to check how we were getting on (she may be little, but she’s still the boss! – for anyone who knows Kamala they’ll understand!)

And even though I was behind the camera most of the day, I don’t want you to think I was by any means slacking – here I am sporting my ‘ever so trendy’ JLS hoody (which my wonderful staff clubbed together and bought me for my birthday 2 years ago!)

Anyway, look what a difference a day makes…

We’re all set and ready to go, just waiting for the big launch in a few weeks!

Just look at all those lovely beads
And you’ll be pleased to hear that personally, I’m ABSOLUTELY LOVING my new craft! I started beading in a small way just over a year ago, then I got really into it over the summer last year. Then once Sarah started she’s been giving me some one-on-one lessons (which have been awesome!) I’m slowly but surely building up my stash, but beads are like paper, you can never have too many, so I’ve been pinching a few of my favourites as we’ve been putting everything out (the perks of being the boss!) so I collected myself a nice little pile to bring home thisevening!

Watch out on the blog over the coming weeks, you might get a sneak peak of what I make with this little pile! I’ll keep you updated I promise!

Just spare a thought for poor Meg who was in the main office all day trying to cope with the phones which were ringing off the hook for the new s.w.a.l.k stamps – so much so, we’ve pretty much sold out across the board!

And also keep an eye out for more information about our exciting upcoming launch – we will be ‘officially launching’ on Create & Craft on Wednesday 23rd February at 9am with a fabulous show entitled ‘All the Basics’ which is perfect for anyone in the same position I was a few months ago, who is taking this up as a new hobby and needs tuition from the start. Then Sarah will be on C&C every Wednesday at 9am teaching you new techniques, and of course bringing you loads of exciting new products! And we’ll have a brand new website with loads of inspirational ideas, tuition, and of course, all the products you need whether you’re a beginner beader, or a bit of an expert!

I hope you can join us for this exciting venture, and we’d love to know your feedback!

Sara xx
