Introducing the Scruffy Little Cat collection!

We are so pleased to be bringing you the wonderful Scruffy Little Cat collection, from artist Sharon Cansfield! We know you are going to love this trendy range which will feature stamps, paper pads, embossing folders, die-cut toppers and a papercrafting CD!

The collection launches with Leann Chivers on Create & Craft TV Friday 9th May at 12pm. Until then we will be sharing sneak peeks here on the blog, on our Facebook page, and on Twitter! You’ll see an inspiration-filled Pinterest board soon, too.

We also wanted to share some words from Sharon Cansfield, the talented artist behind this collection!

What inspired you to create Scruffy Little Cat?
After having my daughter Maisie Rose, I got an opportunity to work for myself; I opened my boutique so I could be flexible, independent & have the freedom of being a mum.

Scruffy Little Cat is a very interesting brand name, what is the story behind this?
The SLC was from my maiden name Sharon Linda Cansfield. At the time I also had a scruffy little cat – Lilac Persian. But it all fitted together when I saw a room within a shop for rent. I told my mum about it & said I’d love it – but had no money!! She then told me that my Grandma Cansfield (she used to call us “Scruffy Little Cats”) had been on the phone & had decided to give each of her grandkids £2000. So she could see what we did with it, instead of leaving in a will. So I had £2000 to trial the shop for 6 months & not be worried about paying the rent. Within 6 months I was moving into a bigger shop! The name just all seemed to fit together! – & people LOVED it too!

What do you enjoy designing and creating the most?
I really enjoy making each gift / design personal & unique to the person buying. I love creating glam characters with bows, crystals & of course GLITTER!

What key tools do you have to hand when creating your illustrations and designs?
Really depends on what I’m going to draw. We have a few different ranges, some I use pencils, some watercolour, some acrylics. An eraser is a must too! + of course… Glitter!

Is there a particular character/design in your collection that is to this day your favourite?
All my characters are special in different ways, however if pushed I MUST say KAT as she is the 1st Character that I created as part of the SLC range & the First character I sold on a card.

We noticed that your bags have been spotted on a couple of celebrities, who have you created bags for?
We have made lots of bags for gorgeous & glamorous celebs including girls from the TOWIE cast, Chloe Sims, Frankie Essex, Nicola Mclean to name a few. And the gorgeous Tracy Dimarco – Jerseylicious who we provided Bridesmaids bags for.

Is there a celebrity that you would love to design for? Who is next on your hit list?
Oooh – I would say Kate Middleton would be a fab one! & Kylie Minogue would be fun also.

Is this the first time you have created a product for crafters? What influenced you to do this?
Yes – This is our 1st crafters collection which I am blown away with! I’m extremely excited to be working with the best crafting company in the world & couldn’t think of a better team of crafters to launch my collection with.

What advice can you give to crafters who will be using the CDs and stamp designs? Are there any hints and tips you have?
I would say just be confident, don’t be afraid to go wild, Mix, match & play with colours & patterns. This is YOUR project – there are no rules, so just have FUN!

What advice would you give to somebody new who is taking up crafting for the first time?
Don’t be daunted- YOU can do this & you CAN create something unique. There are no rules, no right or wrong. Give yourself plenty of time as crafting is addictive & just have fun, and if in doubt ADD GLITTER!

Keep checking in with us for more sneak peeks before the big launch next Friday 9th May!
