We’re pleased to introduce you to our Member of the Month for June 2015, Joan Cannan!
I have been interested in craft from learning to knit and sew at school; over the years I have made various items, embroidered tableware, done tapestries, lots of baking and made rag rugs.
Balancing family-life and working my hobbies were limited to baking and knitting and when I retired I decided to renew my interest in craft and added card making to my list.
I am one of four founder members, all volunteers, of the Forget-me-not Dementia Support Group, which covers the Ashfield District in Nottinghamhsire. The Group is for people and their carers, family and friends where all aspects of dementia can be discussed and where mutual support and concerns can be shared, a chance to meet like-minded people in a safe and friendly environment to enjoy a chat and a cuppa.
Our aims are to raise awareness of dementia; help reduce stress and the sense of isolation; to provide support through all stages of dementia. We meet monthly and also enjoy various trips and outings.
I ensure that all carers, cared for and volunteers receive one of my handmade Birthday cards and Christmas cards, I also make Thank You cards for those who are kind enough to give a donation. I sell my cards to family and friends which helps me to keep a stock of quality cards and paper. The leaflets/fliers are printed on Crafter’s Companion Satin Finish Printer Paper.
