Meet our July Member of the Month, Irene Dewey!
My name is Irene Dewey.
I have always done some kind of crafting, starting with embroidery when I was around 11 years old. I knitted and sewed clothes for my 3 sons when they were young and dresses for myself.
My friend Sue introduced me to card making a few years ago and I though I would give it a try. That was it, I was hooked, I saw Sara demonstrating her Ultimate Pro on Create and Craft and persuaded my husband to buy it for my birthday, a couple of boards and a Christmas DVD came with it and my crafting took off.
I suffer with Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Meniers Disease amongst other things and as you can imagine I cannot get out much so my son and my husband made me a craft room to ‘play’ in. I discovered that just making cards for relatives and friends was not enough and decided to donate some to charity, the one I donate to now is Macmillan Nurses, I just take them to the shop nicely packaged and they sell them to help to pay for the nurses. My friend’s husband died last year aged sixty and the Nurses really helped him and my friend to cope with it.
I have also donated cards in the past to a local cat rescue charity and Beechwood House, a place where people with cancer can go to relax and discuss their problems as well as have aromatherapy and other holistic therapies.
