Over the moon to announce our brand new Member of the Month: Jan Shoulder. Such wonderful work for a wonderful cause.
“My name is Jan Shoulder I have always been a crafter. My main hobby is Cross Stitch I also knit and sew. Every other week I go to the Sewing Cafe In Kimblesworth which is run by Jean Westgarth. I have learnt so much here, the wealth of knowledge amongst the ladies that attend is wonderful.
Going to the Sewing Group helps me in making things to sell at Craft Fairs in the area and this helps with the fundraising I do. With a group of six others, I am part of a Fundraising Team that are trying to raise enough money to rebuild our local Community Hall St.Johns Hall Meadowfield, which in March 2013 was burnt to the ground in an arson attack.
We have raised, to date with insurance, grants and fundraising £478,000 of our £570,000 target!! We cannot wait to get started with the build once we get to target. We regularly hold Craft Fairs, Rock and Roll nights (which is our next event in July) raffles all to raise money for this much needed Hall. Building is hopefully to start next year.
When the hall is up and running we are hoping to start a Craft Group which we feel will bring both the older generation together with the younger generation. I personally feel that the older generation have so much to offer the younger ladies of our Community teaching them to knit, crochet ,sew, card making, scrapbooking to name but a few crafts. As we all lead such busy lives nowadays I do feel that having a craft to do would help the younger mums to relax and enjoy a bit of me time.
I really enjoyed the open day at Crafter’s Companion, the highlight was meeting Debbie Shore as I loved all the shows she does. It was so nice to meet her in person and watch her demonstrate. I also enjoyed that chat with the other crafters over a cup of coffee and had lots to look around at especially new crafts that I hadn’t seen before it was well worth the visit and I will definitely be going again.”
