Die’sire Sneak Peek tutorial by Lisa Taggart

We’re so excited for Sunday’s launch show on Hochanda that we couldn’t wait any longer to share this tutorial with you. Isn’t it pretty! Who doesn’t love a Christmas bauble? And combined with a snowy winter scene that you can shake and have as a home decor item to treasure every year… well, a match made in heaven!! I’ve chosen a pretty pink and green colour scheme but why not choose a scheme to match your living room? You decide!

To recreate this scene, you’ll need

  • Vintage Bauble base die
  • ‘Festive Forest’ Stamp set
  • Luxury silver glitter card
  • Mount board
  • Watercolour card
  • Sheena card
  • Heavy construction acetate
  • Spring/Summer sparkle pens and a brown from another set
  • Sheena Douglas ‘Perfect Partner’ die- ‘Scenic Winter’
  • Die’sire Banner and small tag dies
  • Red liner tape
  • Tacky glue
  • Collall glue gel
  • Foam tape
  • Foam pads
  • Pink ribbon from Sara signature ‘Glamour’ collection

Other materials

    • 8’x 8’ canvas
    • 8’x8’ Mount board cut with a 7’x7’ aperture to create a frame
    • Two sheets of contrasting patterned paper
    • Water spray and paint brush
    • Versamark ink
    • White detail embossing powder
    • White iridescent glitter
    • Sequins
    • White flower soft
    • White twine
    • Craft knife and ruler or 8’x8’ & 7’x7’ square nesting dies.
    • Gemini die cutting machine
    • Heat gun

So here’s how:-

Step 1:-

Using mount board or grey board cut an 8’x8’ frame with a 7’x7’ aperture either using a ruler and a craft knife or square nesting dies. Then taking one of your chosen patterned papers, cut 4, 1’ strips to cover the frame. Stick down using tacky glue. With the contrasting paper cut an 8’x8’ square and stick to the front of the canvas.

Step 2:-

Using the perfect partner tree die, cut the trees twice from Sheena card, taking the time to emboss too. Then on the embossed raised area, randomly place some tacky glue (just a little) and spread some white glitter on top. Stick both die cuts to the bottom of the canvas.

Step 3:-

Stamp the main image using versamark ink and heat emboss with detail white powder on to water colour card. Gently spritz with water. Carefully colour the image with the sparkle pens.

Step 4:-

Using the bauble base die and mount board, cut the main shape and then using the smaller die  repeat, this time making a separate frame to go on top. Line the bauble frame with Sheena card by repeating this last part (optional- looks whiter). Cut the main bauble shape from acetate and stick this to the back of the bauble frame. When the sparkled image is dry die cut this with the bauble die and stick to the mount board bauble shape. Taking the 3D liner tape, stick around the edge of the acetate on the frame. Before sticking to the image, carefully add some glitter, flower soft and sequins to the centre of the coloured scene. Not too much! Line up and stick frame on top.

Step 5:-

Die cut the banner and small tag from watercolour card and stamp the sentiments using white embossing powder. Colour with sparkle pens to match your chosen colour scheme. Stamp and colour 3 trees. Tie a bow from the ribbon and the white twine. ( 1 photo)

Step 6:-

Add a double layer of foam pads to the outside frame and attach to the canvas. Stick the Shaker Bauble to the centre of the canvas using collall gel. Cut a bauble top from silver glitter card and stick down. Add bows, sentiments and extra trees to the front. (2 photos)

Top Crafty Tip

When cutting the bauble frame, line up the dies carefully and stick with removable tape before running through the Gemini. This ensures an even bauble!

Add wet glue to foam pads and foam tape before sticking down for extra manoeuvrability.
