Birthday Week projects – make a floral wish card

Crafter's Companion – 22/10/19

Welcome to the sixth installment of our Birthday Week projects! This project series has been designed to help you get the most out of your free gifts and provide a little bit of inspiration for your future crafting.

For day six, we’re talking about the Make A Wish Die, which you’re able to get your hands on today (October 22nd) if you spend over £10 on the site. This die set feature a fun, swirling sentiment that would look perfect on the front of birthday cards, especially when paired up with other birthday elements.

Take a look at this step-by-step to see how to create a card like the one below, plus an extra suggestion of how to use the die at the end!

You will need:

Step 1

Cut a 4″ x 4″ piece of stamping card. With the Pink Tulip, Fuchsia and Plum Jam Pigment Inkpads, blend an ombre pattern, spritz with water, then use a heat gun to dry.

Step 2

Pass the inked background through your die-cutting machine inside the 3D Geometric Decor Embossing Folder.

Step 3

Cut a black 4.5″ x 4.5″ piece of card, then mat and layer the embossed background on top using the Collall All Purpose Glue.

Step 4

Cut a 4.75″ x 4.75″ piece of light pink textured card and a 4.5″ x 4.5″ piece of black card and adhere together.

Step 5

Cut and score a 5″ x 5″ stamping card base. To create the easel front, score from the bottom folded edge up to the top outer edge diagonally. Fold and burnish the score line.

Step 6

Adhere the mats and layer on to the card base using Collall All Purpose Glue.

Step 7

Cut the Make a Wish sentiment from black card and adhere to the front of your card.

Step 8

Cut three peonies from pink textured card and five leaves from green textured card. Manipulate them using your fingers or a ball tool.

Step 9

Add stamens to the centre of the flowers and a touch of Sandstorm Pigment Ink to the leaves.

Step 10

Adhere the leaves and flowers using the Collall 3D Glue Gel.

Watercolour and marble effects are so popular at the moment, and they look especially good on this card! We’re in love with the swirling blue and purple shades, contrasted against the purple sentiment. You can also add extra metallic detailing with gilding wax, Metallic Liquid Ink or Metallic Markers.

Make sure you show us your completed cards on FacebookTwitter or Instagram using the hashtag #crafterscompanion. You could even show us how you customise the design to suit you!
