How to make a paper pieced Christmas gift box with the Gemini Create-a-Card Dies

Crafter's Companion – 21/09/20

You all know and love our Gemini Create-a-Card Dies, but did you know that you can use them for the beautiful art of paper piecing? This technique involves taking the negative cuts from your dies and piecing back into the space they were removed from. This creates a gorgeous built up effect and it’s the main feature on today’s project!

This Christmas gift box features the Nostalgic Christmas design, and it’s actually so easy to make. Take a look at the step-by-step instructions below to make your own.

You will need:

Step 1

Cut two pieces of stamping card 20.5cm square. Using a Boxer Board, score at 4cm on all sides making a base and lid. Cut the Nostalgic Christmas into the lid. Ink branches with Grasshopper and Clear Sparkle Pen.

Step 2

Cut a piece of stamping card 12.3cm square, and cover one side with adhesive sheet, then attach adhesive side to the inside of the lid.

Step 3

Cut the Nostalgic Christmas design in red patterned paper and gold matte mirror card, then use the individual pieces to paper piece the lid and build the design.

Step 4

Mat and layer four strips of 12cm x 3.5cm red patterned paper and four 11.5cm x 3cm green striped paper, inking the edge in grasshopper. Attach these to the sides of the lid, then make up the lid and base.

Step 5

In red textured card, cut and emboss a poinsettia using two layers each of the second and third largest flowers, and highlight the embossing with gold wax. Assemble and add two white stamens and a gem to the centre. Cut and emboss three holly leaves in stamping card inked with grasshopper.Highlight the embossing with white pencil and paint with Clear Sparkle Pen. Cut three sprigs in white.

Step 6

Stamp the sentiment in Grasshopper on to stamping card, then ink the edges, and layer on to gold and red card. Arrange and attach all to the bottom corner of the box using foam pads and 3D gel to give dimension.
