So we’ve all made it through the first week of a brand new year, pristine diaries have been cracked open, calendars scribbled on for the first time, and New Year’s Resolutions put to the test!
Here at Crafter’s Companion we promised to introduce you to a different craft technique every week throughout January as part of our New Year, New Craft campaign so here we are, Week Two – Sewing!
Whether you’re looking to get stuck into embroidery, quilting or are keen to make your own accessories and clothes – sewing is a great way to express yourself and craft something truly unique to keep, or give as a gift to someone special in your life.
There are so many benefits to getting stuck into sewing, here are a few:
- With sewing, you can let your creativity go wild. Choose your fabrics, colours, threads and embellishments to make something amazing and unique to you!
- You need to take your time, so it’s a great way to wind down and de-stress
- Creating your own clothes and accessories from scratch can be a real confidence boost
- Using small items such as needles, threads and thimbles keeps your fingers and wrists nimble and improves dexterity
- It’s environmentally friendly! If you learn how to mend old clothes you can make them last longer- that means less clothes will go into landfill
But you don’t have to take our word for it, here’s our lovely Crafter’s TV Presenter, Ben Moseby to tell you why he’s going to have a go with a needle and thread this year.
If Ben has inspired you to get stitching in 2021, here are a few step-by-step projects and beginner’s guides to help you get started!
If we haven’t quite convinced you yet, take a look at this post and you’ll be itching to stitch in no time!
Make sure you have everything you need to get off to a flying start!
From a definition of quilting to handy tools to a helpful glossary, this is the post you need to read if you’re brand new to the craft!
We reckon you could use this tote bag for just about anything, not least carrying your crafting stash around! And it’s a great way to say goodbye to plastic bags and hello to needlecraft!
