5 Common Questions about Embossing Folder Organization and Storage

Embossing folders can be challenging to sort, store, and organize.
They come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. They are almost all translucent white plastic. They come in patterns, themes, and seasonal designs.
In the post below I’ve gone through a few of the most common questions we receive about embossing folder storage and organization.

Question #1 – Should I organize my embossing folders by theme, size, or brand?
Do you have a lot of embossing folders?
My suggestion is to create a catalog of your embossing folders. Give each of them a number, and then store them numerically.
Depending on how you’re storing your embossing folders, and the variety of sizes you have, you may want to start the numbering where a letter “A” might represent 4×6, “B” = 5×7, “C” = 12″, etc.
Do you have just a few embossing folders?
If you only have a few, it’s best to store them right in with a theme or category that best describes them. For instance, snowflakes would go in Winter, “Happy Birthday” would go in Birthday, basic patterns would go in a category called “Backgrounds” or something similar.
Question #2 – What organizer should I use if I only craft at home?
Do you have space on a shelf or work table where your embossing folders can be easily accessed? If so, I would recommend the Die, Stamp & Supply organizer. It’s always best to have things open and accessible if space allows.
Do you have a ScrapRack? Consider adding your embossing folders to your ScrapRack for easy access.
Do you need to put your embossing folders on a shelf, in a drawer, or in a tote of some type? Fab Files are probably your best option. The nice thing about Fab Files is they are easy to bring to your workspace but don’t take up a lot of space. Plus they come in all the sizes that embossing folders do!
Question #3 – Should I create a catalog for embossing folders?
YES!!! I’m all about the catalog. Not only will it help you to organize your embossing folders, but it will also help you to use them. Flipping through the pages of your catalog will remind you of all of the embossing folders you have, not just the specific one you’re looking for. If you’re searching for a Happy Birthday folder, and you also see a folder with a Balloon pattern, you may be able to use both instead of just 1.
Question #4 – How should I label my embossing folders so I can easily see the patterns on each of them?
There are a couple of ways to do this.
Some embossing folders come in packaging that shows an image of the folder. In this case, I’m likely to just cut the image off the packaging and attach it to the folder – either by running it through my Xyron and turning it into a sticker or by “hinging” it with a piece of tape (video example).
If there is no image on the package, you can easily create an image by just doing a crayon “rubbing” of the pattern. I use the rubbing method to create my catalog sheets.
Question #5 – Many of my embossing folders have coordinating dies and/or stamps – should I keep them together? If so, how?
YES! Keep things together you use together. If your stamps and embossing folders are similar in size, like the pictured example, they will be easy to store together, in a ScrapRack page, Fab File, or other even the Die, Stamp & Supply Organizer. If the dies are small, put them into a Die & Stamp pocket before storing them.
