Ornament Tutorial

1. Firstly, cut a piece of mountboard to 3½" × 5", and on the short edge, mark the halfway point at 1¾".

2. From that mark, cut diagonally down to each bottom corner of the long edge to create a simple Christmas tree shape.

3. Next, cut two pieces of linen cardstock to 5¼" × 3¾", then emboss each one by placing them inside your embossing folder and running them through your die-cutting machine.

4. Then, lightly sand both embossed panels with a sanding block to reveal the white core of the cardstock.

5. Gently apply gilding wax over the raised embossed details on each panel

6. Glue one embossed panel onto the mountboard tree base, then trim away any excess cardstock for a neat finish.

7. Attach a ribbon hanger to the back of the tree using red liner tape, then adhere the second embossed panel to the reverse side and trim the excess.

8. Ink the edges of the tree on both sides with Lagoon water-reactive ink, then softly rub gilding wax along the edges for added definition.

9. Then, die-cut a bow from matte gold cardstock and red cardstock, shade the red bow with markers DR1, DR4, and DR7, and layer it over the gold bow to create a dimensional drop shadow.

10. Finish your ornament by using a glue gun to attach the layered bow to the top of the tree, then glue a small bell in place for the perfect festive touch.

You can easily customise this project to suit your festive style. Try creating a variety of ornament shapes by cutting the mountboard with multimedia dies, or add glitter and gilding flakes around the edges for extra sparkle. For an alternative twist, skip the ribbon and personalise each piece by stamping a name onto cardstock, trimming it to shape, and attaching it to the tree—perfect for unique table place settings. Experiment with different embossing folders too, and enjoy crafting a collection of Christmas décor that’s entirely your own.
