You've just bought your new Gemini II or are thinking of purchasing one for your craft room. However, you might be feeling a bit unsure about where to begin or how to navigate the new machine. Maybe you had the original Gemini machine or have never had a die cutting machine before, don't worry, we've got you covered.
We'll walk you through its basic functions, the cutting plates you’ll receive, and some tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your Gemini II. From unboxing to mastering its functions, you'll be up and running in no time, ready to begin crafting with confidence.

Unboxing
When you open your Gemini II box, you'll find a welcome pack waiting for you. The user guide inside has plate combinations for different materials, embossing folders, dies, start-up info, and more helpful tips. It's a useful booklet, so keep it close to your machine.
Depending on where you purchased your machine, the North American version includes one cable, while the Global version includes both UK and EU cables (So, US crafters, don’t worry if there’s only one cable in the box, it's the right one for you). Your plates are carefully packaged, and you'll find your Gemini II underneath.

The Gemini Machine
At a glance, you'll notice the Gemini II has lots of new features and updated functions. Like the fold-down platforms to store your craft tools, keeping them within easy reach. The pause, resume, and rewind buttons to give you complete control over your die-cutting and embossing.
There’s also a foldaway media stand, perfect for watching tutorials, classes, and Crafter’s TV while you work. Glide feet make it easy to maneuver the machine on your table, and the three USB ports at the back allow you to charge your devices like desk vacuums and tablets, as well as power your lightpad and other crafting accessories!
A feature you can’t see is the machine's new 9” optical sensor. An exciting addition to the Gemini II, this means you can use any size plates (up to 9” wide) when crafting. So if you’ve only got a small design to cut or emboss, you can use our smaller 6” x 9” plates for convenience.

The Cutting Plates
For the best results with your die-cutting and embossing machine, use the correct plates in the correct combination. Make sure to use the plates properly for optimal performance. Using the right plate combination will ensure your projects turn out perfectly. It may seem confusing at first but once you master the basics you’ll be ready. Included with your Gemini II are two white cutting plates, a metal shim, a plastic shim, a magnetic shim, and a rubber embossing mat.
These plates are full size - 9” x 12”. However, there’s also 6” x 9” plates available to purchase for added crafting convenience. It’s important to note that the plates are consumables, which means they will show wear and tear with regular use. This is normal, so there's no need to worry.
White Cutting Plates
These will likely be your most frequently used plates. Think of them as the bread slices in a sandwich, holding everything together. They provide the perfect base for die-cutting and embossing.
Metal Shim
Use this with very intricate dies and when cutting through multiple layers of fabric. Like a pair of scissors, the metal-on-metal contact provides a crisper cut.
Plastic Shim
This adds another layer to the ‘sandwich’ creating a better and more pressured surface.
Magnetic Shim
This shim adds an extra layer and keeps your dies in place as they go through the die-cutting machine. Just make sure the flat side of your dies faces the magnetic shim, or you might end up with fridge magnets!
Rubber Embossing Mat
Transform any die into an embossing tool with this mat. The softer impact allows you to add an embossed design from a die to your cardstock.
