Create a fun and funky summer festival project with the fabulous ‘Rock’ collection from Sheena Douglass. Laine takes you step by step to show you how you can create this fabulous hat too!
Step 2: Colour the flower section of all four rose images with the Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens, Red Berry, Solar Red, Rose Quartz and Onyx Black. (You may choose at this point, to only colour the sections which will be showing when the layers are cut.) The Onyx Black is used to create depth, shadow and definition between the rose petals and layers and can be blended with Red Berry or Solar Red to create a smooth colour flow. Rose Quartz is the lightest shade and has been used to create areas of paler colour.
Step 3: Colour the leaves/stem of the base image with the Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens Sage,Soft Jade and Sand Dune. Cut out one fully coloured image and the coloured layers of the rose stamp as illustrated .
Step 4: Assemble 3D stamped image, starting with the largest stamp layer and finishing with the smallest. Mould your images using the side of your small scissors to create a curve and depth. Use Collall 3D Glue to fix the layers.
Step 5: One sheet of A4 matt black card will make the crown and brim for your top hat project. Cut the card slightly larger than the embossed oval part of the board. Attach card to paper using low tack tape and with embossing tool create the outer and inner embossed parts of the brim as shown.
Step 6: With the smaller piece of matt black card, attach to ovals on board and emboss the oval for the crown of the hat.
Step 7: Showing both ovals. The inner oval of the brim matches the crown oval in size.
Step 8: Cut out both ovals creating a border on the crown to attach to hat band. Emboss both shapes using the Hessian embossing folder
Step 9: Add further detail with Pebeo Gilding Wax. This is easy applied using your finger or a sponge applicator.
Step 10: Re-emboss the ovals on the brim and crown of the hat. Cut from the centre outward for the bigger oval to create tabs and fold these upwards to attach to the bottom of the hat band. Cut towards the embossed ring on the crown of the hat to form the tabs to attach to the top of the hat band. Fold these tabs downward.
Step 11: Create the hat band from one sheet of A4 card, embossed with the Hessian embossing folder. Cut across the length of the embossed card to form a 5 inch band. Attach red liner tape to one edge of hat band.
Step 12: Curve the embossed hat band to shape and attach the ends using the strip of red liner tape. Add red liner tape to the top and bottom edge of the hat brim. Insert the crown into the top of hat and brim into the bottom, attaching with liner tape. Both the brim and crown of the hat will need some manipulation of the curve to fit into the hat band. This will create a secure fit. Curve up the two sides of the brim to form top hat shaped brim.
Step 13: Decorate your project as required.
